Famous Brands International, the US parent company of the TCBY Yogurt and Mrs. Fields Cookies brands that operates more than 900 sites in 33 countries, is targeting a UK launch, M&C Report has learnt.
Patrick Pons, vice president of international development at Famous Brands International, told M&C Report: “We are seeking to partner up with large established companies that have a major presence in the United Kingdom market place.”
The group operates across the Middle East, South America, China and South East Asia. Its only European presence is in Greece and it’s thought that Europe is seen as a key target for future expansion.
Famous Brands International recently announced a master franchise agreement to bring 28 TCBY stores to Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Vietnam over the next 10 years. The group has partnered with Malaysian-based Dewina Holdings Group, which owns and operates franchises in the region including Café Barbera, Burger King, Quiznos and Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits.
“We are thrilled to expand our footprint in Asia so that we can continue to introduce our legacy brands to more consumers worldwide,” said David Bloom, chief operating officer for Famous Brands. “International demand for TCBY and Mrs. Fields Cookies remains strong and we’re eager to partner with qualified partners to grow our presence internationally.”
Last year Z Capital Partners, Famous Brand’s largest shareholder, bought the group outright after acquiring the remaining minority stake from The Carlyle Group.
The first Mrs. Fields Cookies store opened in California in 1977 by Debbi Fields. It specialises in warm, fresh cookies. TCBY (The Country’s Best Yogurt) debuted in Arkansas in 1981 and billed as a healthier alternative snack.
