A former Fat Duck chef is to open a new Levantine grill restaurant in Camden Market later this month.

Zala is the brainchild of chef Tomer Niv, who has also cooked at The Ledbury and was head chef at R’amas Kitchen in Jerusalem before it was destroyed by a fire last year.

Niv has worked with Zala head chef Stefanos Avdis, formerly of Street Kitchen, The Greek Larder and Princi, to create a menu using traditional Arab and Mediterranean ingredients.

Dishes will include diced chicken breast fried in paprika oil served in pita (£12); a beef and lamb matbucha pizza with tahini, sage yoghurt and crushed tomatoes (£9); and a grilled pita with ‘arayas’ grilled beef (£10). Guests will also be offered complimentary mezze dishes on arrival.

The 38-cover restaurant will feature 12 outside seats, as well as an outdoor takeaway bar and pizza oven.
