Glasgow restaurants and street food pop-ups benefited from the city’s busiest period ever as the Commonwealth Games brought an influx of tourists.
Visit Scotland said during the 11 days of the Games hotel and restaurants in the city were packed with many reportedly running out of food supplies to keep up with demand.
A survey by Visit Scotland said that 100,000 visitors are planning to stay and visit other parts of the country following the Games, while year-on-year growth in hotel bookings during the Games is estimated to be 300% greater than last year.
Mike Cantlay, chairman of VisitScotland, said: “Over the past 10 days, there has been an incredible buzz in Glasgow - the city is packed, the venues are exceptional and the hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes are enjoying one of their busiest-ever summers.”
Petra Wietzal, owner of West Brewery and two pubs in the city centre told M&C that the Games were “amazing for business, I wish the Commonwealth Games happened every year – and were in Glasgow every year!”
