City Pub Group, the listed owner of 43 sites, is to re-launch the Alfresco restaurant in Brighton in December under a new format.

The Brighton Beach Club will operate as a restaurant on the top floor with a more casual space below offering coffees, pizzas and cocktails.

The group acquired the site earlier this year from long-time owners, the Colasurdo family. At the time the group said the prominent seafront position and tourist trade would complement its other two sites in the city - the Lion & Lobster in Silwood Street and the Walrus, Ship Street - which both trade strongly in the winter.

This week, the group raised £6.2m through a share placing as it seeks to capitalise on opportunities in a “softening acquisitions market”.
