A new restaurant opening in London’s Clerkenwell this Friday is aiming to change the perception of kebabs.

Chifafa is an all-day fast casual dining concept being introduced by Nick Green and Matthew Kershaw who decided to launch the restaurant after seeing the popularity of a kebab stand on a trip to Berlin and wanted to alter perceptions of the dish in the UK.

Green told M&C Report: “Kebabs should be healthy: they’re meat, bread and salad but they have a very bad reputation so we wanted to make it respectable again instead of ridiculed.”

According to Green, the 35-cover site at 45 Clerkenwell Road will serve fresh, healthy, ethically sourced meals. He anticipates the majority of customers will order take away.

The venture is Green and Kershaw’s first restaurant venture and is intended to be a single site, however Green said he would not rule out more than one site depending on the public response.

The duo has hired Gillian Thomson, who previously worked for Gordon Ramsay restaurants, as head of operations and Alison Walsingham has been appointed as general manager whose previous experience includes PizzaExpress.
