The Cantaloupe Group, the London-based bar and restaurant operator founded by Richard Bigg, is to open its second site under its Market Place brand. The new bar will be located in London’s Farringdon and is scheduled to launch in April. Bigg told M&C Report that the site, which is currently an independent café-bar, would be a smaller version of the original West End venue, with a capacity for 150 people, spread over two floors. He said that the late-night bar would be designed in the same style as the first site that opened behind Oxford Street in 2002, but would only serve tapas due to its growing popularity. The company is also looking to roll out its Camino format, a new Spanish-themed bar and restaurant launched last year near London’s Kings Cross, but said that it had nothing in the pipeline yet. The group also operates the Big Chill House in King’s Cross, the Big Chill Bar in Brick Lane and Cargo in Old Street. DCL is handling the deal on behalf of the Cantaloupe Group.
