Bubbacue, the North Ireland-based barbecue concept from Boojum Burrito founder John Blisard, has ceased operating.

Bubbacue operated two sites in Belfast, and closed following a creditors’ voluntary liquidation (CVL) notice.

Blisard recently told MCA he had remodelled the restaurants into a counter service format, in a bid to tackle the waning appetite for large meat platters at lunch.

Blisard, who took Boojum to five sites in Ireland before selling in 2015, said he had plans to open a third site in Belfast or Dublin, before looking to England or Scotland.

A post on Facebook said: “Regretfully, Bubbacue is now officially closed. We want to thank all of our amazing employees and customers for all of their support over the years. It has been a pleasure serving slow smoked barbecue to Belfast.”
