Brew, the London-based all day cafe concept, is opening its fourth London site in Putney in October, which at 3,000 square feet, will be its largest restaurant to date, M&C Report has learnt.

Jason Wells, who leads the group, told M&C: “At the moment we are fairly close to something happening in Maida Vale” as well as Earlsfield and Richmond but is held up by the difficulty in finding suitable sites.

The Lower Richmond Road store in Putney is due to open in October and will act as the central bakery for the four restaurants. It will also include a patisserie, wood-fired pizza ovens and meat room where Wells’ previous experience as a butcher will be exploited to cure meats for use in the restaurants.

The group has been funded by Wells and an investor in New York, Wells said: “So far I have invested £1.8m but going forward we might start to look for additional funding but at the moment we are self-funded.”

He said there is sufficient capital to fund five restaurants, which will “grow organically” before potentially looking to banks to grow beyond that point.

“I have a problem with chains in this country, but I’m a serial entrepreneur,” and conceded he could open between 10 and 20 sites that retain the same “community feeling” at its existing restaurants that all place a strong emphasis on service and knowledgeable staff.
