Boojum is actively seeking sites in Great Britain as it opens its 15th store in Ireland, according to managing director David Maxwell.

The fast casual Mexican cuisine specialist has just opened a new store in Liffey Valley – its eighth in Dublin – and first opening since the Azzurri Group acquisition.

Azzurri Group acquired a controlling interest in the Ireland-based chain earlier this year, with a view of expanding it to GB.

“Our Irish pipeline is looking very interesting for the next 18 months beyond Liffey,” Maxwell said. “We’re not hanging about on our GB expansion either and are actively seeking new sites (currently typing from secret location in GB). More updates coming soon!”

Azzurri Group CEO Steve Holmes told MCA in June 2023 that Boojum’s model would work well in student towns, with the chain likely to be launched in North of England to build its presence before moving further South.

“We have a model that works well in Ireland and we’re looking to replicate its success,” Holmes says. “We’ll probably head towards Northern student towns like Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle, and York, and grow in those before we take on the rest of the country.”
