Bella Italia and McDonald’s are among the UK’s most family friendly brands, according to the popular Mumsnet website.

McDonald’s collected a gold award, while Bella picked up a silver award and an innovation award at the website’s recent annual awards, which are based on a review of family policies and anonymous visits from Mumsnet users and their children.

Of Bella, judges said: “Bella talked to parents and children about what was important to them when eating out, and the feedback led them to develop a whole new dining experience, which is now trialling in many restaurants. Key innovations included ‘first-food-fast’ free breadsticks on arrival, adult dishes in DC-sized portions, free drink refills (still and fizzy) and a family-led service approach.”

Judges said of McDonald’s: “Strong offers for maternity, paternity, adoption and fostering leave. Training for new families. Excellent response to last year’s feedback including institutionally discounted childcare places.”
