Barburrito, the Morgan Davies-led fast casual restaurant group, has confirmed it will open its first Welsh restaurant in St David’s Centre, Cardiff in the early summer following £500k investment.

The 12th unit for the Mexican restaurant group furthers its ambitions as the first burrito bar chain to have a national presence with restaurants in Manchester, London, Liverpool, Leeds and Nottingham.

Barburrito will offer a new and expanded menu from the 34-cover unit in St David’s Centre, which is located in the centre of Cardiff that attracts up to one million visitors each week at peak times.

Barburrito has funding in place from the Business Growth Fund to grow the business to over 20 stores in the next two years and is looking at city centres, shopping centres and travel hubs with high footfall to expand into.

The company’s annual turnover is set to double to £18m in the next two years in line with its expansion targets.

Last week Morgan said there are “quite a few plates spinning” at present to grow the business which he said has been trading really well with like-for-like sales up across the current estate.
