Dave's Hot Chicken

Azzurri Group is to bring California-based Dave’s Hot Chicken to the UK, with plans to open 60 units in the UK and Ireland.

The first will open in London by Q1 2025.

Dave’s Hot Chicken, founded in Los Angeles in 2017, operates c200 restaurants across the US and is known for its spiced-to-order chicken. It offers seven levels of spice, ranging from ‘no spice’ to ‘Reaper’, on a menu of tenders, sliders, and sides including fries and mac and cheese.

The chicken concept has sold the rights to more than 700 franchised locations in the US, Middle East, and Canada, and plans to open more than 90 locations this year.

It will add a new concept to the Azzurri Group portfolio, which currently includes Zizzi, Ask Italian, Coco di Mama, and Irish-founded Mexican fast casual chain Boojum.

The group acquired Boojum in June 2023, with Azzurri CEO Steve Holmes telling MCA the deal added a “recession-proof” brand to the portfolio.

“When we first tried Dave’s Hot Chicken we were blown away as it makes some of the most craveable and delicious food we’ve ever had,” Steve Holmes, CEO of Azzurri Group. “We’re excited to bring this incredible brand to the UK and to be their partner in this ambitious roll-out.”

Bill Phelps, CEO of Dave’s Hot Chicken, added: “We know there is an opportunity to make Dave’s Hot Chicken one of the iconic restaurant brands, and we do that by partnering with incredible operators, like Azzurri Group.

“The flavour of Dave’s Hot Chicken resonates across borders, and we’re looking forward to the first UK store getting open soon.”
