African inspired restaurant group Afrikana has lined up six new openings, and is actively seeking new franchise opportunities.

The business will open a new site in Ilford this June, with an opening in Kingston Shopping Centre slated for July, followed by Holloway in August and Houslow in September. It also has further sites lined up in Tooting and Reading.

Afrikana was established in 2018 by Midlands based entrepreneur, Omair Ali, and currently operates 15 sites across the country, including in Birmingham, Cardiff, Leicester, Glasgow and London.

Ali is also managing director of parent company, City Restaurants Group, which operates bubble tea brand Mowchi, and earlier this month opened a first UK site for French taco concept, Tacosmash.

He previously worked in the UK for F&B brands such as Nando’s and Chiquitos, before moving to the UAE where he broadened his experience in the hotel and restaurant sector.

Afrikana currently operates three site formats, the lil’ afrikana, afrikana and afrikana xl and plans to “expand rapidly” both at home and internationally.
