The Somers Town Coffee House in Euston, north London, is opening a basement cocktail and cake bar.

Cosy Kettle will open on 13 November, following a £100,000 joint investment between operators Yummy Pub Co and Charles Wells Pub Co. The basement has been refurbished with new toilets and a staircase, and some major construction work to open up the space for 60 covers. An office has been installed to handle all the bookings and events, and a cocktail bar with a 3am licence has been added.

The area has been decorated in keeping with the first-floor Ssshh SupperClub at the site, but with more colour. “It will have a homely, quirky feel; it’ll be relaxed and have a great atmosphere as the ceiling are so low. We’ve broken the space up to make it feel busy, even if there are only 10 people in,” said Yummy’s Tim Foster.

The cocktail list will feature premium long drinks served with theatre. Cake will be paired to the cocktails and prices will be comparable to other clubs in town.

“We do cocktails upstairs already, but with how crazily busy we are and the space, it’s not something we drive,” said Foster. “This will provide the opportunity to have a dedicated space to give access to people when the pub is full.”

The space will be used for group bookings during the day of between 20 and 60 people, for which the site has demand, but has been unable to accommodate in the smaller upstairs rooms.

Cocktail masterclasses will be offered at the end of meetings.
