Whiting & Hammond, the award-winning south-east multiple led by Brian Whiting, is looking to eventually build an estate of 20 pubs and hopes to add a seventh site before the end of the year. Speaking at M&C Report’s sister publication Restaurant Magazine’s R200 conference, Whiting said that the company was also keen in developing an outside catering business. He said that the company, which opened its sixth pub, the Cricketers Inn in Kent last November, had experienced its best ever financial year in 2010. He said: “Trading took a backward step during the first part of the year, but bounced back over the Easter period, thanks in part to the Royal Wedding and the good weather.”
