The Barracuda Group’s Varsity bar in Oxford Road, Manchester has been named Best Bar None – Best Bar in the city. The venue beat 120 other pubs in the city for the award, which aims to reward safe licensed venues that provide good management, prevent alcohol-related crime and offer a safe and enjoyable environment for customers. Matthew Abbott, bar manager, has been involved in the Best Bar None scheme since it was launched in Manchester three years ago and was previously accredited as a Best Bar None operator. The company second Varsity bar in Manchester, Wilmslow Park, was also accredited with the Best Bar None plaque. The Best Bar None scheme is operated by Greater Manchester Police’s City Safe unit and over the past two years has rolled out to over 50 councils and police forces across the UK.
