Top East Midlands pub multiple operator Michael Thurlby has bought his eighth pub, writes Paul Charity. Thurlby, whose estate is all freehold, has acquired the Exeter Arms, in Easton-on-the-Hill, near the tourist town of Stamford, Lincolnshire. The freehold has been bought from Enterprise Inns. It is understood the pub was originally marketed for £600,000 but Thurlby acquired it for in the region of £250,000. Thurlby, who bought his first pub in 1993, has a strong market position in Stamford with three pubs — the Periwig, the Crown Hotel and the Tobie Norris. The Exeter Arms sits on 1.63 acres and Thurlby plans to add an accommodation block. He also wants to offer function facilities at the new pub.
