Teashop, cocktail bar and literary salon Teatulia is to open its first site at 36 Neal St in Covent Garden later this month, with further expansion planned in the UK.
The business, which is founded by Ahsan Akbar and K. Anis Ahmed, who also run the Dhaka Lit Fest, Bangladesh’s leading literary festival, has retained the services of MTI Consulting for strategic advice and support as the concept looks to expand across the country.
By day Teatulia will have a menu of six different teas for takeaway or consumption on site, while in the evenings it will serve tea-based cocktails from a menu designed by Enrico Gonzato, from Dandelyan at the Mondrian Hotel.
The cocktail menu will feature drinks such as ‘Builder’s Bourbon’ (Black Tea, Blackberries, Sugar, Fresh Mint, Bourbon), ‘Lemongrass Mojito’ (Lemongrass Tea, Fresh Mint, Fresh Lime, Rum, Light Brown Sugar, Club Soda) and ‘Chai Hot-Buttered Rum’ (Chai Tea, Dark Brown Sugar, Butter, Honey, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Spiced Rum).
The concept is named after the region of the same name in northern Bangladesh – a tea-growing region which lies between Assam and Darjeeling.
The 16-cover venue and retail space has been designed by the same designers behind Dishoom and Tamarind Kitchen – Russell Sage Studios.
Teatulia’s Bangladesh parent company is a family-owned business with an eclectic range of interests, from engineering to retail, real estate to media and sports.
