Stonegate has completed its first conversion of an existing site to the Sports Bar & Grill brand and is about to launch three new Be At One sites, chief executive Simon Longbottom has told MCA.

The former William Blake pub in Old Street is now operating under the new-look Sports Bar & Grill brand, with the refresh also on show in the existing Victoria site, complete with new menu.

Meanwhile today sees the re-opening of the former Babble City site in Old Broad Street as a Be At One. The venue was part of a package of sites from Novus Leisure, which Stonegate acquired last year. Also set to be converted from that package over the next month are the ex Gem bar in Beak Street and the former Fifty9 in Berkley Square.

Longbottom said that further conversions were likely and that around half of the 21 sites acquired from Novus in two packages in July and last month, would receive investment.

Longbottom said: “There were a few bankers from the Novus estate – sites that obviously suited the Be At One model – and these are the first three. Berkley Square in particular has been crying out for a good cocktail bar. They needed some investment and we’re expecting there to be real demand for the Be At One offer in these locations.

“We’ve made some tweaks to the model but this is very much the Be At One people now and love.”

On Sports Bar & Grill, he said: “We have taken our time to get to the know the brand, the customers and figure out what we want to do with it. We have given it a bit of a refresh and introduced a new menu and the reaction has been fantastic. We are in no rush with the brand but there’s a lot of potential across travel hubs and that’s where we’ll be focussing.”
