Carl Uttley, who has spent 11 years at JD Wetherspoon, has joined rival Stonegate Pub Company as an operations director for its Traditional Pub estate, M&C Report understands.

Uttley, who was previously a consultant at McDonald’s, has spent the last five years as a regional operations director at JDW.

His appointment comes as Nick Andrews, currently brand operations director at Mitchells & Butlers, prepares to become managing director of Stoengate’s Traditional Pubs business.

Andrews’ appointment, effective from 3 June, completes the restructure of the company, which is thought to be preparing for an initial public offering next year.

In February Stonegate announced that the estate would be divided in two, with former Novus Leisure chief executive Tim Cullum appointed managing director of the Branded Bars and Venues business - comprising the Slug and Lettuce and Yates’s brands, as well as Stonegate’s late night venues.
