SSP, the travel food specialist, is to continue the expansion of its pub format – The Beer House – to Wales, with an opening at Cardiff Airport.

The Steve Smith-led company currently operates nine sites under the format and has been steadily converting existing sites for the concept and sister brand The Cabin and The Beer House as it converts existing units.

The group currently operates four sites under it upmarket bar and restaurant brand The Cabin in Bristol Stansted and Newcastle airports as well as at London Waterloo.

Simon Smith, chief executive of SSP UK & Ireland, told MCA he plans to continue to convert more of its pub sites in London stations and regionally to the Beer House format and to groe The Cabin.

Smith did not rule out opening pubs outside of stations, commenting the Dickens Inn at St Katherine’s Dock in London is one of its busiest sites, but said the primary focus continues to be stations and airports.
