SSP, the travel food specialist, is expanding two of its bar brands with new openings for The Cabin and The Beer House as it converts existing units.

The group is preparing to open its fourth upmarket bar and restaurant brand The Cabin in Bristol airport, following recent additions at Stansted and Newcastle airports as well as at London Waterloo.

Simon Smith, chief executive of SSP UK & Ireland, told M&C he plans to continue to convert more of its pub sites in London stations and regionally to the Beer House format to grow both it and The Cabin.

As previously flagged up in M&C a further site under SSP’s Beer House format is opening next week at Manchester’s Victoria Station.

Smith did not rule out opening pubs outside of stations, commenting the Dickens Inn at St Katherine’s Dock in London is one of its busiest sites, but said the primary focus continues to be stations and airports.

He said there is no specific number being targeted by SSP, with each location being assessed on its merits for the brand that best complements the space.
