Derbyshire-based multiple pub operator Jonathan Smith has acquired the Red Lion in Shirland from Marston’s.

The site was sold off an asking price of £285,000 through Christie & Co.

Smith also operates The Boat Inn, Cromford; The Canal Inn, Belper and the The Cliff Inn, Matlock.

He said: “We have big plans for the Red Lion. We will undertake a comprehensive refurbishment of the property and continue to trade it as a pub, with a focus on real ale and good quality food.”

Gavin Webb, business agent at Christie & Co’s Nottingham office who handled the sale said: “We are pleased to have secured a sale of the property on behalf of Marston’s. This is yet another example of a public house being sold for continued licensed use and we wish Mr Smith the best of luck with his new venture.”
