Sketchydog – the Shropshire-based pub company founded by two former M&B and Brunning & Price executives – is to double its estate this year, MCA has learnt.

Co-founder Paul Fletcher, who spent 10 years with The Restaurant Group’s pub arm, told MCA that he and Dave Laycock plan to ultimately grow to between six and 10 pubs.

They currently run the Lowfield Inn, in the village of Marton, and The Sun Inn, Welshampton.

They will open The Dog & Bull in Coton, near Whitchurch this month and are also at heads of terms on a site in Welshpool, with the intention of opening later this year.

Fletcher told MCA: “The aim is to create a collection of good-quality, unpretentious local pubs. We’re proud of our food but we’re not going down the gastropub route.”

He said the pair had funded the venture themselves and were not seeking backing.
