Manchester-based pub and bar operator the Sheridan Group has launched its third site and its second with Enterprise Inns.

The group has opened the Black Lion Hotel in Salford after a £280,000 joint investment.

The Sheridan Group already operate the Mitre Hotel with Enterprise as well as Manchester’s Barca Bar.

The refurbishment saw the Black Lion’s 17 bedrooms upgraded as well as the bar area, with a menu from Pieminister installed.

Sheridan Group managing director Anthony Sheridan said: “We want The Black Lion to be somewhere people come to regularly for a jolly, entertaining night out - they treat it as their local but it’s in the city centre.

“It will be a local with quality pie and mash and real ales, plus live entertainment every Friday, Saturday and Sunday with different singers and artistes, an open mic night, karaoke and pub quizzes.

“There will be live sport all day, every day with everything from football and athletics to cricket and tennis.”

Enterprise regional manager Paul Hirst said: “The Black Lion is an imposing building but as new apartments and hotels have sprung up around it the pub’s interior became outdated and left it trading out of its market.

“It’s a complete transformation, from what you’d call a town centre boozer with the feel of a station waiting room into a stylish, friendly venue attractive to locals with a taste for city centre living.

“We’re delighted with the outcome which is the result of a close working relationship with Anthony and justifies Enterprise’s latest investment in the town centre in which we have a number of pubs.”
