Shepherd Neame has acquire the Anchor at Yalding, Kent, bringing its total portfolio of managed pubs and hotels across the South East to 54.

The sale marks the first time the pub has changed hands in more than 30 years.

It was officially taken over by the brewery yesterday, and will be shut for general maintenance work before reopening on Monday, July 6. The brewery said it would be reviewing options for further investment in due course.

The pub is being run by Chris Peach, who previously ran another Shepherd Neame pub, the Manor Farm Barn in Southfleet.

Shepherd Neame’s director of retail and tenanted operations Nigel Bunting said: “The Anchor in Yalding is an historic building with lots of character, boasting a fantastic riverside location. We are delighted to welcome this unique pub to our retail estate, and are confident it will prove a worthy addition.”
