Under an initiative organised by Shepherd Neame, a mobile post office is delivering post and pensions to four of its pubs on the North Downs. The service has been introduced after the villages around Faversham in Kent lost dedicated post offices. The Chequers in Doddington, The Three Mariners in Oare, The Carpenters in Eastling and The White Lion in Selling are involved in the scheme. Patrick Coevoet, licensee at The White Lion, said: "The service is available here every Tuesday morning and has started already with success. And it’s not only the elderly who are taking advantage, you can even sort out your car tax while you have a drink." The scheme compliments the efforts of Pub is the Hub, an advisory group assisting rural pubs on how to act for communities under threat.
