Cambridge beerhouse concept Pint Shop has secured its second site in Oxford, with a further opening planned to follow soon after, MCA has learnt

The company has exchanged on a site in the city’s George Street opposite the New Theatre, which will be 60% bigger than the Cambridge site.

The 5,600 sq ft site is spread over two floors, with a 110 cover bar area, 110 cover restaurant space and two private dining rooms.

Co-founder Richard Holmes told MCA: “There’s quite a lot of work to do there but it’s a great space. It will take about 11 weeks to take it back to a shell and then about 12 weeks to fit it out from there. We will be open by the end of the summer, which is actually the time we trade best.

“There are some obvious similarities between the demographics of Oxford and Cambridge but there are also a lot of differences. What really convinced is that there is as big a gap in the market for what we do as there is in Cambridge.”

Holmes said the offer would evolve for Oxford with an extended bar offer, featuring 24 beers on tap, compared to 16 at the original site.

He said: “It will be a big leap on in terms of our bar food offering. It will be a greater selection, particularly during the day. We will have British charcuterie with a meat slicer on the bar and tray-baked salads.”

Holmes said he hoped to press on with expansion and open a third site within six months of launching in Oxford. He said funding was in place and the group was actively searching for sites.
