Fledgling multiple operator Pie&Pint Inns is opening its second site in Great Leighs, Essex, in August as part of plans to grow the group to four sites, M&C Report has learnt.

The group, led by William Crighton and Gary Downham, has acquired The Castle at Great Leighs on a lease with Punch Taverns that is being completely refurbished following investment from Punch.

The Castle’s original features will be restored as the building has become “tired and tatty”.

Crighton said the site will be a similar concept to the first Pie and Pints pub – The Hare at Roxwell, Essex – a wet-led pub serving traditional British pub food with a premium feel -including a pie menu.

“Our initial plan was to open four sites in the first eight years but it has taken five years to find our second so it may be longer.”

He said location is key for Pie & Pint Inns as well as looking for sites that have at least 100 covers and ample kitchen space and parking.

Crighton said they are looking to add a high street pub to the portfolio along the A12 corridor in Essex – potentially in Brentwood or Billericay.
