Persian Leisure, the bar and café group operated by Garland Leisure owner, Mehdi Afshar, has acquired two sites from Barracuda Group, and is understood to be in negotiations on a third. The company has acquired leasehold interests of the Town Hall in Staines, and the Clipper in Dartford. It is also thought to be in negotiations regarding the Bear in Wembley. The Town Hall and the Clipper were part of a group of 22 non-core units - including 9 freeholds and 13 leasehold pubs, placed on the market by Barracuda through property advisor Christie + Co last October. Over half of these sites have either been sold or are under offer. Barracuda, which is led by chief executive Mark McQuater, said the disposal was a result of the group pursuing a "more focussed strategy across its pub estate" and was part of its bid to capitalise on its Smith & Jones format. Formerly PFI Ltd, Persian Leisure operates a number of bars and pubs in the South East. Afshar's bowling operation, Garland Leisure, acquired 11 ten-pin bowling sites from the Original Bowling Company, last November. It has since added a further two sites in Aldershot and Wolverhampton and plans to grow to up to 20 sites over the next six months, which would make it the third largest bowling operator in the UK.
