Orchid Group, the managed pub operator, has taken on its first pub company tenancy — a Charles Wells pub in Ely. Orchid has signed heads of terms agreements with a number of tenanted operators, including Punch Taverns, with a view to taking on pubs. The company is re-opening The High Flyer, a Charles Wells Pub Company business, following a £250,000 joint investment. The project was conceived by Charles Wells’ design team and developed in consultation with Orchid — the pub will trade under Orchid's Free House Dining division. Craig Mayes, director of operations at Charles Wells Pub Company, said: "This is the first of a number of potential pubs Orchid are looking to develop alongside Charles Wells. "We’re both excited about the re-opening of The High Flyer and the other projects we have in the pipeline; it’s fantastic to work with another company that shares our vision of providing a great pub experience for its consumers." Paul Cutsforth, operations director at The Orchid Group, added: “The High Flyer is a great new addition for us. "With its close proximity to the High Street, it gives us an opportunity to evolve our Free House Dining division offering. "We’re looking forward to restoring this Ely gem and creating a real community focused pub that locals can be proud of.” The development project included a full internal and external refurbishment providing eating and drinking space for 125 customers. It refreshed a sizeable external drinking area and redecoration for five letting rooms.
