Hertfordshire-based brewer and pub operator McMullen’s is to open its tenth Chicken & Grill site.

The Old Crown in Royston will be the latest venue to take on the format, which specialises in “traditional pub comforts”, such as rotisserie chicken, chargrilled meats and ice cream sundaes.

The acquisition was announced as McMullen’s handed out its annual awards at a ceremony at Newmarket Racecourse.

The winners included Carl Farmer at the Saracen’s Head in Ware, Hertfordshire, who won Newcomer of the Year; Jennie White at the Jolly Butchers in Enfield, Greater London, who won Bar Person of the Year and the Baroosh site in Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire, who won Kitchen Team of the Year

The company said the awards were a chance to show its licenses and their teams gratitude for “making our business tick”.
