Market Town Taverns, the Heron & Brearley-owned, Yorkshire-based pub and bar operator, has appointed Louise Middlemass as its new operations director, M&C understands.

Middlemass joins the 15-strong group from Whitbread, where she spent over 12 years, most recently as a regional operations director across its restaurants division. She previously worked for Pizza Hut as an area manager.

She joins the company as it continues to convert its existing estate to its PubCraft format, which focuses on “local beer, local produce and good service”.

It has so far rolled out the format to a third of its estate.

Last September, Al Cross joined the group from Halewood International, where he was marketing controller for Crabbie’s. He had worked for the company since 2007 and was previously head of marketing at Global Brands.

Simon Midgley stepped down as managing director last August to join Ossett Brewery as commercial director.

Market Town Taverns was acquired by Heron & Brearley, the Isle of Man’s biggest hospitality operator, for an undisclosed sum in 2011.
