Mitchells & Butlers (M&B), the managed pub operator, has made new appointments to its executive committee, with Susan Martindale taking over from Saudagar Singh as HR director, M&C Report has learnt. Martindale, who currently has the role of programme director leading the “frontline focus” programme of change at M&B, starts her new position today (Monday 12 November). M&B chief executive Alistair Darby said: “Over the last few weeks Saudagar Singh and I have discussed how we should continue the successful implementation of our HR strategy and how we should incorporate the next phase of the Good to Great programme into it. Saudagar has decided that now is the right time for him to pass on this work and to pursue new opportunities beyond M&B. “As a result, Susan Martindale will assume the role of HR director from Saudagar on Monday 12 November and join the executive team I congratulate Susan on her new role, where she will put all of her efforts into the development of our people. “After a careful handover Saudagar will leave on Friday 7 December. I thank Saudagar for his significant contribution to M&B and wish him great success for the future.” In addition, marketing director Simon Cope has been appointed to the executive team on a permanent basis with immediate effect. Darby said: “Simon has stepped with enthusiasm into the marketing director’s role over the last few months and it is absolutely right that he should be a full member of the exec as our guest champion.” On Monday M&B said that Bob Ivell has now resumed the role of non-executive chairman and handed over executive responsibilities to new chief executive Alistair Darby on Monday. This follows a period of induction for Darby, former chief operating officer at Marston’s, who was appointed to the role of 8 October.
