Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) is set to open a further site under if new fast casual concept Son of Steak, MCA understands.

The company, which opened the first site under the new steak-led in Trinity Square, Nottingham, last month, is believed to have lined up an opening in the Xscape scheme in Milton Keynes for this summer.

It is thought that as with the Nottingham opening it will look to convert its existing Harvester site at the scheme.

In January, MCA revealed that M&B that planned to pilot a new counter service, fast casual steak offer, as part of its investment in new concept development and innovation in the marketplace.

It said that Son of Steak would offer “great steak, served simply”.

The menu focuses on “quality, hand selected products including wet and dry aged steak, selected for its flavour - sourced from carefully selected cattle reared on sustainable British and Irish farms, before being matured for at least 28 days”.

A range of sides & sauces includes freshly hand cut chips, cooked on site, to secret steak sauce, and more adventurous guests can sample a steak bao bun, inspired by Taiwanese street food. Son of Steak also offers mojito’s on tap.

Last December, M&B launched its new Chicken Society format in Finchley.

Divisional director Susan Chappell told MCA at the time that the concept allowed M&B to utilise smaller footprint sites as well as adapting first floor and basement spaces alongside sister formats.

She said sites had already been identified in Birmingham, Liverpool and Glasgow, as well as other areas of London, with the second iteration of the concept likely to go live this spring.

The format is based around spit roast chicken and duck.
