Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) has appointed Mark Gilbertson as its new group head of recruitment.

Gilbertson has almost 25 years of recruitment experience during which he has worked across multiple sectors and for companies such as Sainsbury’s, Boots, TSB and Cable & Wireless.

His appointment follows the decision by Liz Phillips, the group’s director of Resourcing & Employee Relations, to take early retirement after over 25 years with the company.

Group HR director Susan Martindale said: “Recruiting, retaining and developing our people is core to our business. With Mark joining M&B it will enable us to address some of the business drivers that will allow our organisation to develop a really competitive edge in the employment marketplace.”

Gilbertson said: “As an organisation of 44,000 employees, with customers who love our brands, we want to make sure our candidates and new team members feel the same way and are focussed on ensuring our guests have a great time. This is a real opportunity to become the ‘employer of choice’ in our sector and that is why I am really delighted to be joining M&B.”

Phillips’ decision to retire follows that of two other long-serving directors Jeremy Skingley, brand operations director for Toby Carvery, and Richard Cox, brand operations director for Harvester.
