Maclay Group, the Scottish pub operator headed by Steve Mallon, has secured a pub in Prestwick under its Thistle Pub Company vehicle and outlined target locations for future growth.

Mallon said he intended to run the Flanagans pub in the centre of town in its existing format over the short term and undertake a “comprehensive refurbishment” during the first quarter of 2014.

Alan Creevy, director of CDLH surveyors, which acts for Maclay Group in acquisitions, said: “Flanagans was on the market earlier this year through an administration and it was identified as a suitable prospect for Maclays to add to its existing estate.

“The property is in a good location and benefits from an extensive beer garden, with clear potential for redevelopment and expansion.  Maclays was able to move quickly in the acquisition and concluded a contract within weeks.”

He added: “Maclays has secured additional sites in Edinburgh and Glasgow city centres and is keen to expand further right across Scotland, focusing particularly on Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth, Inverness and Aberdeen.”
