London Village Inns, the six-strong pub group, is moving into the restaurant market, with a planned opening in Brixton.

The company has just purchased the lease on a former Chinese takeaway, which it will be redeveloping as a “quirky” restaurant offer.

The site is close to its existing pub in the area, the Crown & Anchor.

London Village Inns managing director Martin Harley told MCA: “We are opening up a restaurant in Brixton. The whole of the street has just been pedestrianised and Brixton is buzzing and really flying at the moment.”

The group, led by Martin and Diane Harley, took over the Punch pub The Westbury in Wood Green in 2014. It also operates The Wrestlers in Highgate, The Brownswood near Finsbury and two pubs in Stoke Newington The Rose and Crown and The Jolly Butchers.

Last year, the company said it intended to grow organically, with the intention of opening two sites a year. The plan is to reach a total of 15 sites by 2019. Harley revealed it was a challenge finding pubs as the competition in the capital is so fierce.

All the pubs in the London Village Inns portfolio offer quality beers, real ale and cider along with classic pub food.
