JD Wetherspoon and TRG Concessions/Giraffe are among the winners in an awards scheme that recognises top food and beverage operators at airports.

Wetherspoon’s Red Lion at Gatwick Airport’s north terminal (airside) was named the best worldwide airport bar at the Airport Food and Beverage Awards (FAB).

Wetherspoon head of development and acquisitions, Jon Randall, said: “We are delighted that The Red Lion has won this award.

“It serves thousands of customers each week and plays an important part in the overall success of Wetherspoon.

“There are numerous airport pubs and bars across the world, so it is very pleasing that The Red Lion has been named as the best in its sector.”

Giraffe in Heathrow Terminal 5 won the coveted best airport restaurant - casual dining award.

The restaurant is operated by TRG Concessions, whose managing director Nick Ayerst said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won this award. The iconic design of Giraffe T5 is outstanding and unlike any other restaurant in the world, but this is recognition for the exceptional quality of food, drink and hospitality that is delivered to every guest 365 days a year, and is testament to all of the hard work that our team put-in to delivering an unbeatable customer experience.
