Walkabout operator Intertain is to open its first new venue since its formation in 2009 in West Street, Brighton.

Contracts have been exchanged on the site with the transaction due to complete on 31 March.

This acquisition follows the announcement earlier last week that Intertain had completed a restructuring of its main debt facilities, which included the granting of new long term funding arrangements.

The site, currently trading as ‘Bedrock’ - will open this summer as a ‘new-style’ Walkabout, after a £600,000 refurbishment.

Intertain chief executive John Leslie said: “This is a landmark moment for Intertain, and we’re very excited about this opportunity. The funding platform we now have enables us to build a pipeline for the future.

“This is a great location and we are very happy to be going back into Brighton with our new style Walkabout, after an absence of over five years”.

The current venue will remain trading as Bedrock for the first few weeks, before closing for refurbishment. Once open, Walkabout will be home to a ‘Reef Bar’ for the main bar area, with linked-screens showing under-sea and beach footage.

The venue will also boast a variety of pre-bookable booths and private areas for parties, meals, club nights and live music, along with plush VIP areas and a state-of-the-art sound & light system.

Pre-bookable front row seats will be available for all major televised live sports events which will be shown on giant new projection screens, and multiple HD TVs.

The menu will include light bites, main meals, sharing dishes and party plates. This will be combined with a new drinks menu that includes wines, beers and cocktails inspired Australia.

The company said: “The look, style and feel of the venue, combined with the food and drink menu will put Walkabout on the map for both day and night-time trade, positioning it as the perfect place for an impromptu coffee, relaxing lunch or chilled out afternoon, as well as to watch live sport or party.”
