Interpub, the operator of bars and hostels, has announced that it will open a new Belushi’s Bar and St Christopher’s Inn in November in Berlin. The company, which currently operates 13 backpackers and independent hostels across Europe, will open its new acquisition under the name St Christopher’s Inn Berlin on 1 November. Currently named the Circus Hostel @ Rosa Luxemburg, the 160-bed hostel will also house a Belushi’s bar and a new club, which is set to open in the basement early next year. Interpub has also announced that it has acquired the George in Hammersmith from Punch Taverns, which it plans to relaunch as a Belushi’s bar and 80-bed hostel. The company is also in the process of building a 275-bed hostel in Paris, which is due to open in 2007 complete with a bar/café and live music venue. The group said it was “well on the way” to raising a further £30m from existing shareholders Scottish & Newcastle and through a partnership with HBOS, as it looks to “fuel the huge growth plans” it has over the next five years in Europe. According to Eddie Passey, retail director, the company is currently looking at sites in Madrid, “as a key entry to the Southern Europe market”, and at possibilities for additional hostels in Paris, London, and Amsterdam.
