A team of long-time Hotel du Vin staff, backed by Master of Wine Gerard Basset OBE, have launched a prohibition themed wine and cocktail bar, L’Atelier Du Vin, in Brighton.

Boasting the largest selection of wines and spirits in the city, the first floor bar opens above Grow 40 on Kensington Gardens.

L’Atelier Du Vin is a venture from Basset protégés Steve Pineau and Dimitri Mesnard.

Pineau, also owner of café-restaurant Grow 40, is a former manager of Hotel du Vin, while Mesnard is a master sommelier who trained at Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and went on to work at Hotel du Vin under Basset.

Pineau said: “We wanted to create a space that we could have fun with, where people can discover great wines and rare vintages, stepping back into the prohibition era where real cocktails were created. We’ve put it together with our own hands and want people to come and enjoy the space, feeling at home.”

The bar is home to a selection of more than 500 wines and 300 spirits, with Basset providing an evolving selection of six prestigious wines, half available to order by the glass using Coravin technology.

A small food menu includes steak from Trenchmore Farm and charcuterie and cheese.
