Heineken, Britain’s biggest brewer, has announced that it will increase the wholesale price of a pint of beer by 4p from 1 February. The 3.8% rise, which is exclusive of duty, will add £11 to the wholesale cost of a brewer’s barrel. The company will also increase the wholesale price of a pint of cider by 5p, adding £15 to a brewer’s barrel. At the same time, Diageo announced that the wholesale price of Guinness draught and Guinness Red will rise 5.1% next month. The price hike will see the recommended retail price increase by 10p to £3.03, equating to a 3.4% rise inclusive of duty.
