Hawthorn Leisure, the pub group backed by May Capital, has begun the expansion of its new craft beer concept Artisan Tap and is gearing up to launch a take home option and beer club, M&C understands.

The c350-strong group, which launched the concept at the Corkers site in Paisley earlier this year, has recently invested £200k relaunching the Grapes site in Pontefract, West Yorkshire as the Tap & Barrel under the format.

The company also plans to launch Artisan Affair, an online beer club, which it said will offer the “very best of Artisan Tap for you to enjoy from home”.

A further Tap & Barrel will open next month on the site of the former Oak House in Aylesbury.

The group describes the concept as “uniquely developed by Hawthorn Leisure to meet the growing demand for quality craft beers and drinks”

It said: “Artisan Tap is a range of venues in the UK providing a haven for Craft Beer lovers. An eclectic mix of beers from around the globe create our rotating menu offering of over 80 choices. Our venues also boast a tempting coffee selection and tasty nibbles to boot!”
