GT Pubs, the Norfolk-based company led by Richard Grundy and Howard Thornton, formerly of GRS Inns, has taken over operation of the 10 sites that were previously run by Clover Taverns, M&C Report has learnt.

Clover Taverns, which leased sites from Spirit Pub Company, was placed into administration with Duff & Phelps in March.

GT Pubs was founded in 2010 by Grundy and Thornton, who held senior roles at GRS Inns and later London Town. The company is also believed to have taken over management of sites formerly operated by Publicana, which ran pubs for major pubcos, after that firm was placed in administration in 2010.

Duff & Phelps cited a downturn in trade that exacerbated cashflow demands for Clover Taverns falling into administration.

The pub operator was founded in 2008 and led by managing director Andy Wilkinson. Its pubs included the Old Black Bull in Preston, the Fox in Basford, Nottingham, and the Shakespeare in central Manchester.
