Greene King has introduced food and drink takeaway across its entire food-led managed estate, making it the largest pub takeaway business in the UK.

The move follows successful regional trials of takeaway and delivery from selected Greene King pubs since June, and means the 1,400 (of a possible 1,700) reopened food-led sites will now offer a takeaway service.

Approximately 400 pubs will also provide home delivery via Deliveroo and Just Eat.

All sites offering takeaway will pass on the government’s VAT reduction, giving consumers a full 20% discount on their order.

With pub classics including fish and chips, stake and ale pie and hunters’ chicken on offer, consumers can order a range of meals, beers, wines and soft drinks for takeaway via the Greene King app or by phone.

Customers can also use the app to search which pubs near them are offering the service.

“We are thrilled to offer this added service to our customers who we know have missed pub food during lockdown,” said Matt Todd, group procurement and supply chain director. “Our purchasing habits have changed over the last few months and while nothing quite replicates the experience of being with friends and family in a pub setting, for many customers, particularly if they have been shielding, it may take time to build confidence to return to the pub.

“By offering takeaway pub food and drinks across the majority of our estate, customers will have the choice of visiting their local pub as before or enjoying the pub experience at home.”
