Global Star, the West Midlands brewer and pub operator, is to launch an estate of all-day craft beer and cocktail bars under the name Dares by Davenports, M&C has learnt.

The company, which operates c40 pubs across the region, acquired Davenports’ Highgate Brewery in 2007 and relaunch the Dares beer name earlier this year.

It is thought to have already earmarked six venues to be refit with the new Dares Crafted Beer and Cocktail Bar concept as part of a multi-million investment.

The first standalone site under the new format is set to open in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter in Frederick Street.

The venue will operate as a healthly food/lunch venue during the day with a full food and drink service during the evening.

The original Dare’s Southend Brewery was located on Belgrave Road, Balsall Heath Birmingham, and dates back to 1927, it was acquired by Davenports in 1962.

Davenports’ Highgate Brewery was also previously owned by Mitchells & Butlers before it exited brewing. It was subject to a management buy-out in the 1990s and was later acquired by Global Star, which was founded in 2002 and is headed by directors Wayne Toon and Harbinder Uppal.
