Geronimo Inns, the Young’s-owned pub group, has secured a site in Aldgate to open The Baker and Basket in December as part of a leisure and residential development called Goodman’s Fields.

The group has taken a 999-year lease on the 5,000sq ft site to open a pub-restaurant in the Berkley Homes development.

Ed Turner, managing director of Geronimo Inns said: “We are hugely excited about opening The Baker and Basket at Goodmans Fields. The Berkeley Group have created a wonderful canvas in which to create a beautiful food pub that will be perfect for a business breakfast, early evening drinks, a long lazy weekend brunch or dinner in the dining room. In addition we will have a private dining room seating up to 24, as well as a terrace for the occasional Al fresco moment.”

This will be the second Berkeley Homes project Geronimo is opening a pub in following The Old Guard House that is due to open in the autumn as part of a development in Woolwich.

Turner said: “Pubs, bars and restaurants are increasingly merging closer together in style and function but for the last 20 years Geronimo has created bespoke spaces that are unique, stand out and simply work for all occasions. What never changes is that pubs are a key part of a community and the Baker and Basket has been designed to fulfil that role and will represent the diverse mix of this unique part of London.”

Geronimo has also lined up openings in Tooting with the Trafalgar as well as The Fellow in Kings Cross and The Owl and Pussycat in Shoreditch.

CBRE acted on the deal on behalf of Berkeley Homes.
