Gatecrasher, the nightclub brand founded by Simon Raine, has acquired The Works club in Birmingham’s Broad Street. The late-night operator plans to invest £5m in transforming the venue and will launch it as its third Gatecrasher club at the end of September. The 2,400-capacity club is set to be redesigned as a “state of the art, multi-level super-club”. The company said that it was looking for architecturally significant buildings across the UK to convert into nightclubs. It has earmarked cities including Manchester, Glasgow, Brighton, Liverpool and Dublin as part of its expansions plans through 2008 and 2009. The group currently runs Gatecrasher Seven in Leeds and GatecrasherLovesNottingham, as well as the Area nightclub in Walford, which is set to be refurbished and rebranded. The legendary Gatecrasher in Sheffield burnt down in June last year.
