JD Wetherspoon is to open the first pub at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on 24 October. The company is to spend around £900,000 converting the former self-service restaurant into a pub, which will be non-smoking. John Hutson, the company’s chief executive, said: "This will be the first Wetherspoon pub to open within an exhibition centre and I am confident that it will be welcomed by exhibitors and visitors alike."
